Cherry blossom tree branch flowers

DJ Sakura and DJ Silent return to the studios for another live #iheartjrock. Tune in SAT 10PM EST on 103.3FM WXOJ-LP Northampton MA USA. We stream on valleyfreeradio.org. We play music from #japan and #retro stuff.

We’re a bit upset about something and would like to share something with you. We recently read a comment to an AI generated photo that left us a bit emotional. To handle this situation, DJ Sakura has been busy making new icons for the radio station and #iheartjrock. She will try to not use the images in the immediate future. It seems a whole year has gone by since creating AI images, and a lot of images have been created as well. It appears to be useless and must start over.

DJ Sakura has already made a radio and a cherry blossom stick. It’s a new beginning.

Which ended up making this.

Anyways, hope you get to tune into #iheartjrock or listen to the archives. We’ll be posting march and april sometimes soon. Really we will.

MIYAVI has announced his first new album in three years, titled “Lost In Love, Found In Pain.” Part one of this album, “Lost In Love,” will be digitally released on download and streaming websites worldwide this summer.

A short music video for “Eat Eat Eat,” a song included in “Lost In Love,” has been revealed. Directed by Darren Craig, who also handled the album design, the video depicts an impactful scene where MIYAVI is surrounded by four dancing women while he is tied to a chair and threatened with a knife.

The newly released short music video is about 30 seconds long, and several unused cuts from it will be posted as short clips on social media from April 3. We hope you will enjoy this video, which resonates with the album’s theme of “Duality.”

Stay tuned for more updates, including the release of “Running In My Head,” the theme song of Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture, and developments regarding the second part of the album, “Found In Pain.”

man holding sword on his back

Samurai Champloo, airing in 2004, stands as a groundbreaking anime directed by Shinichirō Watanabe. Seamlessly blending historical drama and hip-hop elements, it crafts a unique visual and musical experience that captivated anime enthusiasts and hip-hop fans alike, earning acclaim domestically and internationally.

Director Watanabe, known for his deep appreciation of music, selected four well-known hip-hop artists for this project: Nujabes, fat jon, FORCE OF NATURE, and Tsutchie. The tracks they created for Samurai Champloo were released across four CDs – “departure,” “masta,” “impression,” and “playlist” – and became a smash hit. They were reissued as vinyl in 2022, and the vinyl versions sold an impressive 20,000 copies, maintaining popularity to this day.

Now, in 2024, the 20th anniversary of Samurai Champloo’s TV broadcast, these soundtracks will finally be available on music subscription services worldwide. As the CDs are currently hard to come by, and a record player is required to listen to the vinyl records, this release will enable both domestic and international fans to easily access the soundsource.

In conjunction with this announcement, an official anime playlist has also been released on Spotify. We hope you will check it out.

As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the TV broadcast of Samurai Champloo in 2024, various plans are in the works, so please stay tuned for future updates.

yellow fireworks

The radio show/podcast #iheartjrock was created at the Valley Free Radio studios in Feb of 2017. It was on Saturdays 12AM EST until 2 AM. A lot of music was played on air for a year then moved to Saturdays at 10PM. DJ Sakura666 was all alone until 2019 when DJ Silent came onboard with music from the 80s. #iheartjrock moved to 3 hours in 2023.

This year there were tons new requests from music from Japan. A lot of it was Japanese Pop, and not so much japanese rock, but we played what we could and also kept up with classic jrock bands, vk bands.

We held a poll asking about favorite things of 2023. Thank you very much for taking time out of your day to look at it and spread your opinion. It is very helpful. We will discuss this on #iheartjrock 12/30. We especially look forward to knowing favorite movies, anime and video games.

Spinitron also have a log of all the songs DJ Sakura666 spun this year. We will have a countdown and also play 3 of your favorite songs for each of the following bands
#SixTONES (releases from 2023)
#WEST.(formerly JohnnysWEST) (releases from 2023)
#KingandPrince(releases from 2022, and below)
#Arashi (releases from all time)

We are very grateful for everyone sending so many cds and special fans only merchandise. We treasure all of it. Also the DVDs. Such lovely sights to see!

So a countdown to most played songs on #iheartjrock
We will talk about the #iheartjrock Poll Best movies, music, anime, video games and more

No 80s this week. We are going to celebrate the 2023, it had a lot of death, and sad jpop changes, but we also got to celebrate good things like birthdays and anniveraries., new projects, new movies, new dramas.

Tune in SAT 10PM EST on 103.3FM WXOJ-LP Northampton MA USA streaming on valleyfreeradio.org or your favorite radio website/app. We are 3 hours of music overload!

the ED Theme for The Fire Hunter Season 2,

to be Released on Digital Platforms on January 15, 2024!

New Artist and Jacket Photos Also Revealed!

Maaya Sakamoto has announced the digital release of a new single, titled “Dakishimete” (meaning “hug” or “embrace”). This song has been chosen as the ending theme for the second season of the WOWOW original anime The Fire Hunter, which will be available for streaming from January 14, with the first episode offered for free. This marks Sakamoto’s second collaboration with The Fire Hunter, following her previous ending theme, “Mada Tooku ni Iru.”

The lyrics and composition for “Dakishimete” were handled by Senri Oe, a renowned singer-songwriter of the 80s and 90s who is currently active as a jazz pianist based in New York. Still highly respected by many artists today, this collaboration marks her first encounter with Maaya Sakamoto. “Dakishimete” is a gentle ballad that beautifully complements the intense narrative of the anime, creating a resonant musical piece that lingers with the soothing vocals of Maaya Sakamoto.

Additionally, a second promotional video featuring the song has been unveiled, along with new artist and jacket photos.

The Fire Hunter is a fantasy novel by Rieko Hinata. Set in a world where humanity has lost fire after an apocalyptic Last War, the story depicts the lives of the 11-year-old girl Touko and the 15-year-old boy Koushi as they face numerous challenges and struggle to survive. As in the first season, the director is Junji Nishimura, known for works such as SAMURAI DEEPER KYO and Kyo Kara Maoh!, while the composition and script are handled by Mamoru Oshii, known for works like GHOST IN THE SHELL and The Sky Crawlers. Additionally, Maaya Sakamoto plays a crucial role in the series as the character Akira.

Comment from Maaya Sakamoto:

The ending theme of the first season, “Mada Tooku ni Iru,” was a powerful song to encourage the characters. However, this song is completely different, featuring a gentle melody.

The standard edition will be available in four different formats, each containing the tour’s opening day and final show on both Blu-ray and DVD. “At Tokyo Ariake Arena (Day 1)” comprises footage from the Day 1 performance at Tokyo Ariake Arena and backstage documentary footage from both Tokyo shows. “At Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Halls (Day 6)” similarly features footage from the Day 6 performance at Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Halls 1-3 and backstage documentary material from both Makuhari performances. All Blu-ray versions offer a dual sound mode, with 5.1-channel surround and 2-channel stereo, to faithfully reproduce the overwhelming energy of the massive stages. (Please note that the DVD and documentary are available in 2-channel stereo only.)

The cover features an original illustration drawn by Chisato Mita (CAPCOM), the character designer for MacrossΔ. This striking illustration portrays the Walküre members adorned in their pristine white live outfits, evoking the theme of “departure.” Please don’t forget to book your copy!
