Process essay for English class! The process in which I went to school. It got a lot of feedback from my instructor.
Process Essay
Regards. My name is Denise and I am a female, married and almost 50. I have a lot of skills under my skirt, but none of those skills are certifiable. I have been working, surviving for the past 20 years, working in office environments that were good pay, but bad hours and boring work. I bounced around, working for a call center, working for a grocery distributor, and some trucking companies too. It was so tedious and my coworkers always took advantage of my skills, time, and dependability. I had to get away, or I was going to die from stress. So, I sat and I finally figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up.
The first thing I did was, I left my job; I ghosted them. I finished my vacation and never went back. The new place was part time, and I could sit and listen to audio books. It was great. Instead of being yelled at by customers. I was comfortable. Then they laid me off. I was with the company for about 3 years. I was the last they let go, but they intended to bring me back when they got some work. So, I was unemployed, on unemployment waiting to be called back.
The next thing I know is I am being contacted by Mass Hire Holyoke office. They work with Massachusetts Unemployment offices to help jobseekers find employment, and they also will help with further education, workshops, training, and resume building. Upon my research I found the path that I am now on. It wasn’t a very straightforward situation; I had to do a lot of work to figure it out on my own. I worked with MASSHIRE though all the processes I had to go through. I had to go to workshops; I had to read and fill out forms for MASSHIRE online. I had to meet with a counselor to discuss further education. At this time, I knew what I wanted. I needed to be pointed in the right direction. Al though MASSHIRE couldn’t help me with this path I chose, they did get me started.
Now here I am with the course that I want to do, with the school who will help me get there. I was offered Re-Connect; at the time I filled out my paperwork it was called this program. It is a scholarship for residents of Massachusetts who do not have any certificates from colleges. Most community colleges have free colleges for everyone; there are selected courses that are offered and are funded by the institution. These are the courses that need to be selected to be in the program. I found the course I needed and then I applied for the course online, you need to fill out a lot of forms. First you need to fill out a form for financial aid. Next step is to get accepted into the college you are applying to. You can work with the school in person or through an app for the college too. Make sure to keep an eye on it, there are more forms to read and fill out. I was worried too. The last thing to tie me up was an option for dental insurance. Please keep up with your funding.
Finally, I am here. One month into school. I think I am doing ok. The job that laid me off, hired me back, the second I completed my online application to school. Yes, the world has a sick sense of humor. I am working and still molding my path. Not to forget my motivation. My therapist, who I have been seeing for a long time now, always mentioned going to college. She thinks I am a very creative person and has high expectations of me. I am creative, and smart, and I need to be aware that people will not be there for me, and I need to go out and support myself. I want to be paid nicely for things I like to do.
